Exercising to create: TIME!

One of the most common reasons people say they can’t exercise is because they don’t have enough time. Let’s look at an argument that regular exercise can actually create TIME in your life and help you get more done every day!

1. A person that exercises gets more done.

In 2005 Medibank Private Limited undertook an extensive research project “The Health of Australia’s Workforce”. This research found that unhealthy employees achieved 49 effective hours of work per month compared to a healthy employee that exercised who achieved 143 effective hours work per month.

On this basis alone a healthy person gets an extra 94 hours of work done! In addition to this, an unhealthy employee will take on average 18 days annual sick leave, compared to 2 days annual sick leave for a healthy person. That’s another 128 more hours the healthy person has created.

2. You will be smarter!

“Exercise improves your brain in the short term by raising your focus for two to three hours afterwards,” according to Dr John Ratey, author of “Spark - The Revolutionary New Science of Exercise and the Brain”. His report suggests that exercise can help prevent your brain aging, as blood flow and brain derived protein improve.  With the greater focus, comes greater outcomes and time saving success!

3. Exercising creates energy.

Cityfit’s Operations Manager, Alisha Pollard, says that “when you really don’t feel like exercising, is probably the time when you most need to exercise!”

“As your body moves, it creates more energy on a cellular level, she said “you will soon forget about the couch, instead feeling more energised and ready to tackle the day”.

“On top of that when you exercise your body releases endorphins, these improve your memory and help you prioritise tasks. Also, the serotonin produced during exercise improves your mood and alleviates symptoms of depression,” said Alisha.

None of these studies are based on people doing hours of exercise per day; positive results can be gained from as little as 15 minutes of effective exercise.

Alisha said “CXWORX is a popular 30 minute class at Cityfit, it provides a good strengthening work out and is easy to fit into your day. Another time saving option for parents is to bring the kids in for a 30 min Born to Move class and work out on the cardio machines at the same time!

“Going to the gym or doing any exercise shouldn’t be a hassle, find something you enjoy; if you focus on quick and simple things you will have more energy in your life.”

Exercise does create time; you get more done because you are quicker, happier, more organised and more relaxed. So what are you waiting for?
